“Jooze is a fictional company that manufactures fresh fruit juices, catered especially to kindergarten and primary school students. It is a company that believes that healthy eating habits should begin at a very young age.

The shape of the logo is inspired by the shape of a sliced fruit, and the handwritten typeface used is to portray a sense of fun, hands-on personality and characteristic that appeals to kids and toddlers. The logo also consists of singular bright colours, which may vary depending on the flavour of the juice. This would hopefully be a recognisable icon whereby children can relate and connect to the brand.

A simplified illustration of the fruits are to further clarify the flavours, to add visual aesthetics, and to appeal and connect to the target audience.

The juice box is shaped in an unconventional way to incorporate the essence of the logo, to gain instant recognition from the audience, and to capture their attention, especially if this product is placed alongside other juices on the supermarket shelves.”

Bent Basket by Faris Elmasu

Good design should naturally lead us to feel an attraction and also connect to our aesthetic sense. Combined with a high degree of functionality you will be on to something not entirely wrong. This was exactly the experience Bent Basket left us.

Super convenient and an ingenious spin on the old cargo bike, however, performed with a lightness and in a design that fits the modern bicycle.

The same ideas and approaches can be used to inspire my own work.

Photoshop! – Rendering

I really have started to like using photoshop for quick results, this was simply rendering a line image of the Samsung wave.  Been able to duplicate the image and simply adjust the hue for different colors is great! ideal for concepts. Just by tweaking brightness and contrast you can get good results for under an hours work.  Other features I used where spot light effects and lens flare.

Playing about with Bottles

Here are some sustainable glass bottle concepts…

Squares and rectangles can be more efficiently stacked.

This is a concept of a light fixture that fits over the bottle neck with a thin filament. (Creating a second life for the bottle)

Light can produce green or white light depending on bottle used!

Maybe a few holes, a method of hanging and some seeds inside and your waste bottles can be used in a much more immediate environment. (rather than been sent off to a land fill, or even re- melting)
Not really fitting in with my project work but a bottle none the less!… This is one of those things that you just do to pass the time! N0, I didn’t draw it, but I did scrunch it up and take a photo of it, I left the rest up to photoshop.

Here are 2 of the Presentation Boards from the project mentioned above:

Making a Light using Old Wine Bottles

This is a rough model; as part of my current Uni Project.

Bottom of bottle cut off and cable threaded through bottle neck and wired up to bulb.

Hole drilled through cork for cable access.

White Silicone used to insulate bare cables and hold bulb base in place.

One of the models used during the development stage; exploring alternative uses for wine bottles.

Green Glass gives off a nice green glow.

Energy saving bulb used and wine labels removed.

School and Home Projects Coming Together

This is the first pond my Dad and I built,  we later decided to use the rest of the space for a second pond, this time raised above ground level.  The first pond is 9″ Breeze blocks with waterproofed plaster.

I then decided that this was an opportunity to incorporate my school GCSE project, and I thought the best way too do this would be by designing and making a bench that would be part of the second pond.

This is a Computer Aided Design created on the software we used in school called Pro Desktop.

The finished product.. well not quite finished still!… But here you see the second pond (Raised and lined with rubber liner) and the garden bench (Oak and mild box steel)

Being able to manage both these projects together was great. Whilst at home and in school, I was very enthusiastic about the work!

The Evolution of Corporate Identity Design

These have been taken from an article by Tony Chen from the ‘Looks Good’ Design Magazine.

The four rings in the logo have nothing to do with the Olympic rings, but is the emblem of one of the oldest car manufacturers in Germany. It represents the 1932 merger of four independent motor-vehicle manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer.

Initially, the logo for Apple Computers depicted a small apple shape sitting under a tree with Apple Computer Co set into the frame of the picture. The first logo design was perceived to be way too complex and hard to view so the designers worked on the logo some years later and added a bite mark to represent the seduction of the customers and the marketplace in general. There are actually a lot of biblical references in the Apple logo design, for example the rainbow-colored apple is a reference to the story of Adam and Eve in which the apple signified the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge.

A young pharmacist named Caleb Bradham in 1893 started experimenting with different soft drink mixtures. In those days, many pharmacists served their customers refreshing homemade drinks. In 1898, Bradham bought the trade name “Pepsi Cola” for $100 from a competitor that had gone broke. At the same time Bradham’s neighbor, designed the first Pepsi logo. The beverage’s instant popularity led Bradham to channel his efforts to developing Pepsi-Cola into a real business.

The logos showcased in this article are registered trademarks of their respective corporations. Use of these logos here does not imply endorsement of the organizations by this site.

Choosing a New Phone Just Got Easier!

This is a concept designed by Kristen Ulrich Larsen, a design student who felt that “After the introduction of the smartphone, the industrial design of the devices has converged into all looking more or less the same.” An amazing and original concept, way beyond the scope of anything else I saw when I was looking for a new phone!

Photoshopped Caricatures

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Was very fun to make these Caricatures from the line drawings!

The line drawing was done with fine liner and I took a picture of it with my phone to import into photoshop.

Flat Pack Chair Project

Photoshopped image of a fifth scale card model.

This Line image of the chair was used for the flat pack assembly instructions.

Plywood Chair Presentation Board

This was the final developed chair. The project was completed in groups of 3, our theme for this chair was Speed and adjustability, if you look closely you might be able to see that the 6 horizontal slats can be moved higher to make a stool!

Can ‘Skin’ – Photoshop Rendering

This was part of a project to design a novelty product using sustainable materials. It was a neoprene can skin to accessorize your drinks can whilst been comfortable and reusable. During this project I used the opportunity to further explore product rendering.
